Abstract

Jenu Kuruba, listed as one of the primitive tribal groups of Karnataka, mainly inhabit the districts of Mysore and Kodagu. The Kurubas of Karnataka are basically a forest dwelling tribe. They subsist partly on primitive agriculture and partly on forest produce. The lands they own are Invariably dry with no assured irrigation and drought prone.

Abstract

Several studies conducted in the past among various tribal groups revealed wide variation in their health and nutritional status characterised by their individual socio-economic and socio-biological conditions as well as socio-cultural practices. The environmental factors in which the tribe lives and health care facilities and their utilization also significantly determine the overall health status of the group.

Abstract

Tribal groups form an important segment of the Indian population, and the socio-economic status and cultural pattern of these tribes are known to vary considerably. While there is considerable data regarding the food habits and nutritional status of several urban and rural communities in our country such information on tribal population is scanty. This information is necessary in the formulation of programmes aimed at nutritional upliftment of these groups. In this communication, data relating to the nutritional status of preschool children belonging to some of the major tribal groups of Andhra Pradesh are presented.

Abstract

Protein-calorie malnutrition is a problem of considerable public health importance among the pre-school children of the lower socio-economic groups, Someswara Rao et al and Pralhad Rao et al. Dietary surveys among these groups (Pralhad Rao et al) revealed that protein intake was adequate or marginal as compared to their requirements based on actual body weights. However, their calorie intake was found to fall short on the average by 300 calories per day.

Abstract

Protein calorie malnutrition is the most widespread nutritional problem of pre-school children in India. Considerable information has been accumulated regarding the factors that are responsible for its widespread prevalence. The solution to the problem obviously cannot lie in the treatment of such cases, but in their control and prevention. The economic implications of the situation cannot be under estimated since the cost of treatment of even a small proportion of cases will be considerable.

Abstract

Inconel 718 is one of the most difficult-to-cut materials because of its low thermal diffusive property, high hardness, and high strength at high temperature. This paper presents a hybrid optimization approach for determination of the optimum turning process parameters (speed, feed and depth of cut) which minimize the Surface Roughness (SR) and maximize Metal Removal Rate (MRR) together in CNC high speed turning of Inconel 718 nickel based super alloy with uncoated tungsten carbide cutting tool. A multi-response optimization has been carried out by using Taguchi method based Grey Relational Analysis (GRA). Also the significant process parameters have been found out for the above process optimization by performing an ANOVA. Confirmation tests with the optimal levels of cutting parameters are carried out in order to illustrate the effectiveness of the method. Validations of the modeled equations are proved to be well within the agreement with the experimental data.

Abstract

The term fluidity refers to the ability of a material to flow before it solidifies. This is a very significant factor which will determine the filling up of castings with complex and intricate shapes. Mould filling ability is a parameter that is used to determine the fluidity of a material in conventional castings. At semisolid temperatures the metal exists in the form of slurry. Hence fluidity of the material in the freezing range is very important. In the present study numerical simulations are carried out to determine the mould filling ability values and compared with casting fluidity parameter. The process parameters that were used in the simulations include billet temperature, ram speed and preheating of die.

Abstract

Integrating statistical techniques and simulation technologies and their simultaneous usage allow shortest product development periods, required casting quality, on the whole, improves economic efficiency. Casting solidification simulations are conducted for a stepped block of aluminum alloy casting to study the effect of pouring temperature and chill parameters on porosity formation and cooling rate in a sand casting. Taguchi methods are used for experimental simulations with a four factor, three level L9 orthogonal array. Porosity and cooling rate are recorded from a three-dimensional finite difference solidification simulation program as response functions. Statistical techniques are used for analyzing the effect of process parameters on porosity and cooling rate In the cast component. Numerical optimization techniques are presented with multivariable optimization for predicting the factor levels for minimization of porosity and maximization of cooling rate. A confirmation run is carried out to compare the predicted levels of process parameters with final simulation run.
